Kingfisher Diving Tank Workshops
Mon – Friday

I have access to a specialist hide set-up to photograph kingfishers perched and diving, this technique will allow the client to get into a very close proximity to this special bird and go away with some amazing photos, under my tuition you will be taught how to use the correct shutter speeds to freeze the bird as it enters and leaves the water how to manually focus where the bird is going to dive, how to meter exposure and use manual settings so you can obtain photos as below without using photoshop or other editing suites.

Kingfisher 2

Maximum number of clients in the hide is four so please if booking as a group make sure you book early to avoid disappointment.

Perched shots are easily obtainable with focal length lenses of 300mm to 600mm are recommended on a full frame sensor, the hide is fitted with gimbal mounts so no need to bring a tripod, mount fittings arca swiss style are provided.

Kingfisher 3

As seen above, slow shutter speeds can be adopted to give some movement to the bird as he strikes his fish on the branch to kill it before eating! This can create an artistic effect that in some cases adds to an image over a static shot.

Kingfisher 1

Photographs of the bird leaving the water with its prize are easily achieved with the right technique, a focal length of 100mm on a full frame sensor or 65mm on a crop sensor. Ball heads are fitted to clamps outside the hide to attach your camera, you will need a remote trigger that can be triggered from the hide or a 5 meter cable release, a waterproof cover for your camera is highly advisable as once your camera is in situ it cannot be moved to avoid disturbance.

The location of the hide is in Market Drayton in Shropshire.
